Well, modern VR is a magical technology that probably is going to change the way you see and feel the world around you and the way you realize and imagine the world in your mind. The first two available headsets, Facebook’s Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, but buyers have to face currently delays in availability.
Oculus currently give details on the status of pre-orders in April and the Vive faces payment issues, shipping issues and also pre-order customers have not much information what is going to happen. HTC currently give the following information:
We understand that multiple issues have arisen in the past two days and we are working hard to resolve them as quickly and efficiently as possible. We appreciate your patience as we identify these issues and work to solve them. This post will serve as the bulletin board for known issues and their solutions. We will update it as frequently as we can in order to keep you informed on our progress.
Whatever it is, they all face a tough road. The total lack of information is one of the most disturbing facts from the point of view being a customer and willing to spend approx. $900 more or less on an unproven technology.
If companies do not keep up with the promises they have given, they probably will run into the same dangerous area, that happened to the Virtual I/O i-glasses in the early 90s.
They later were sold by a German computer discount chain PEARL and sold 50 % off the regular price.
Even in 1994 the VFX1 was sold in a package with a cool game called Magic Carpet during the CeBit, it got broad attention but could not suceed in the market, because there was no standard and not enough available application, that would make the gears useful.
So the marketing manager should hurry up, otherwise they should remember what happened to Commodore Business Machines back that time, when they failed to release their console CD32 in time and Nintendo, Sony and SEGA flooded the market.
A hint for the companies: Release the gears now, with a dozen of useful applications and awesome great bundles !
